Dale Wolford

Dale Wolford retired in 2024 as  a faculty member at the University of California, Berkeley. He has also held teaching positions at San José State University, the University of the Pacific, California State University—East Bay, California State University, Stanislaus, and Chabot College. Additionally, he has served as a board member for both the California Music Educators Bay Section and the Music Teachers Association of California. Presently, he is a Yamaha Performing Artist.


As a distinguished saxophonist, Dale has graced the stages of renowned orchestras such as the San Francisco Symphony, San Jose Symphony, and Sun Valley Symphony. Additionally, he has showcased his exceptional talent as a soloist with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra in San Francisco and embarked on international tours to Copenhagen, New York, and Chicago.


Throughout his illustrious career, Dale has been a member of the Premiere Saxophone Quartet. He has also collaborated with esteemed artists and ensembles, including Philip Glass, Bernadette Peters, Santa Cruz New Music Works, the Morosco Saxophone Quartet, the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet, the Nuclear Whales Saxophone Orchestra,  and the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players.


For over three decades, Dale collaborated with pianist Ivan Rosenblum, forming the Wolford/Rosenblum Duo. This collaboration has resulted in the premiere of numerous innovative works, including Gunther Schuller’s Sonata for Saxophone & Piano. The Duo has released three recordings, with their most recent release, Aria—Lyrical music for saxophone and piano.


Dale studied with William Trimble, Sigurd Rascher, and Victor Morosco. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from San José State University and a Master of Arts degree in Saxophone Performance from California State University, Hayward (East Bay.)
